Village Community Services Recruitment & Retention Strategist VISTA

Arlington, Washington, USA

Start Date: August 1st, 2022

Please take a moment to consider the typical payments that are regularly made in households. Now imagine how it would be if you didn’t have a job, leaving you unable to pay for things. The solution seems clear enough: apply for a job and pay your bills. Now imagine yet another scenario of how it would be if you couldn’t move your hands, so you couldn’t fill out the application, or you are non-verbal so you can’t complete the interview, or if you can’t read or don’t understand the basics of money so you don’t even understand that you need to pay the bills. The solution isn’t so simple anymore. At Village Community Services (VCS) we provide solutions to scenarios that are no longer simple. We believe that by acknowledging personal challenges and leveraging both individual and community strengths we can help people with significant life challenges become successful. We believe that with expert support, our participants are able to live with maximum self-sufficiency and as valued members of the workforce and community. To this end, VCS's Village Experience Learning Center helps people build life and job readiness skills through hands on learning experiences, group fellowship and socialization, and individualized support. We offer both small group and one-to-one instruction in the classroom, at home, via virtual platforms, and in community or work settings. Examples of current Village Experience offerings include budgeting and managing personal finances, experiencing success through art and music, cooking on a budget, building stamina through exercise and work experiences, and using adaptive technology for communication. The VISTA member will build a volunteer management system for the expansion and sustainability of the Village Experience Learning Center, allowing VCS to offer more courses and reach more people with significant life challenges who need our help.
